Exporting to the United Kingdom From Pakistan

By Hexaco Global | October 1, 2026 | 8 min read

The United Kingdom is one of Pakistan's most natural export markets. English is the language of business, a large Pakistani diaspora creates familiarity and networks, and many Pakistani products enjoy preferential duty access. Since the UK left the EU, it runs its own trade rules — similar to the EU's in many ways, different in some important details.

Trade Preferences: The DCTS

The UK's Developing Countries Trading Scheme (DCTS), which replaced the UK's version of the GSP in 2023, gives reduced or zero tariffs to eligible developing countries. Pakistan is in the scheme's Enhanced Preferences tier, which offers generous tariff reductions across many products, including a wide range of textiles.

To benefit, goods must meet the scheme's rules of origin, and the importer must claim the preference with proper origin documentation — typically a statement on origin from an exporter registered under the REX system. Check the UK Integrated Online Tariff for your commodity code's preferential rate. See certificate of origin guide.

UK Customs Basics

Product Rules

UKCA and CE Marking

For products covered by UK product safety legislation, the UKCA mark applies in Great Britain. The UK has extended recognition of CE marking for many product categories, so goods meeting EU requirements can often be sold in Great Britain as well — but rules differ by product and have changed over time. Northern Ireland follows EU rules for goods. Confirm the current position for your product.

Chemicals

UK REACH controls chemicals in products, similar in principle to EU REACH. Buyers of textiles, leather, and consumer goods will ask about restricted substances.

Food and Agricultural Products

The UK operates its own sanitary and phytosanitary controls on food, plants, and animal products, with risk-based checks introduced in stages since 2024. Expect requirements for health or phytosanitary certificates depending on the product. See phytosanitary certificate guide.

💡 One product, two markets

Many products meeting EU requirements also meet UK requirements with limited changes — for example labels showing a UK importer address. If you already sell to the EU, ask your buyers what extra would be needed for the UK. It can be a quick second market.

Labelling

UK labelling rules for textiles, food, and consumer products are broadly similar to the EU's, with UK-specific details such as importer information. See labeling requirements for export.

Ethical Sourcing Expectations

UK buyers, especially retailers, often require social compliance audits and ethical trading commitments. The UK's Modern Slavery Act requires larger businesses to report on steps they take to address modern slavery in supply chains, and those businesses pass expectations on to suppliers.

Finding UK Buyers

Logistics

Sea freight from Karachi to UK ports such as Felixstowe or Southampton typically takes several weeks. Air freight is common for urgent fashion items and high-value goods. See sea freight vs air freight.
